Cygnus: Rolling Symbols, Free Drops and Series Differences

Cygnus by Elk Studios

Cygnus is ELK Studios’ six-column slot with rolling symbols and a grid that grows from four to eight rows. In the original, multiplier scatters activate at the bottom and a bonus symbol reaching the left pillar starts seven Free Drops. Cygnus 2 and Cygnus 3 change that progression, while the Egyptian alternatives use different win systems.

Cygnus and Cygnus 2: what changes?

Cygnus 2 keeps the six-column, four-row starting layout and rolling symbols. Its multiplier activates at the leftmost column and then becomes a wild. Extra triggered bonus symbols award three more Free Drops. Those are meaningful rule changes, so the sequel is worth comparing even if the Egyptian and astronomical artwork looks familiar. Read each edition’s own feature description before treating a multiplier or bonus trigger as interchangeable.

Sources: ELK’s Cygnus rules and Cygnus 2 rules.

Reading a Cygnus drop

The two sides of the grid and its bottom row have different jobs. In the original game, a multiplier scatter activates at the bottom; the bonus symbol must reach the left pillar. A symbol landing somewhere on the board has not necessarily reached its trigger. Follow its movement after a win clears space, rather than treating every visible special symbol as an immediate award.

How the number of ways grows

With four positions in each of six columns, the layout offers 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 = 4,096 possible six-column paths. At eight positions per column, that becomes 8 × 8 × 8 × 8 × 8 × 8 = 262,144. These are possible routes through the grid, not 262,144 prizes or drawn paylines. The symbols along a route must still satisfy the paytable.

Multipliers affect subsequent wins

Each activated multiplier scatter doubles the current multiplier, up to 64x. During Free Drops, the multiplier is retained between drops. As an illustration, a £1 qualifying win at 4x pays £4. If a later activation raises the multiplier to 8x, a subsequent £1 qualifying win pays £8. Those two awards total £12; the later multiplier does not retrospectively turn the earlier £4 into £8. The £1 figures here are example wins, not a promised return on a £1 stake.

Seven Free Drops begin with the full eight-row grid. That changes the starting area and preserves multiplier progress within the feature; it does not make every drop a winning one. Compare the trigger location, active grid and reset rule separately when moving to a sequel.

An original drop, step by step

Begin with the active grid rather than the largest ways figure. Four rows across six columns supply the starting area. When a paying combination explodes, the remaining marble symbols can move under the current gravity direction. A special symbol may then reach the position required to activate its feature. Its location after movement matters; simply appearing high on the grid is not the same as arriving at the bottom or left pillar.

Ordinary winning removal, sideways movement and the next drop of replacement symbols are distinct stages. If no further paying combination is available, more symbols may fall and increase the number of active rows. That progression can open the display as far as eight rows. The current ways figure therefore describes the active space, while the current multiplier describes the factor applied to eligible subsequent wins.

Consider an illustrative original round in which a multiplier sits above its activation row. A paying combination clears space and the special symbol falls to the bottom. It then doubles the active multiplier for subsequent wins. If the clearing win paid £2 before that activation, it remains £2. A later £2 qualifying win at 2x would add £4, making £6 together. Applying the later factor retrospectively to both wins would overstate the total.

A bonus symbol uses another destination: the left pillar. Reaching it starts seven Free Drops on the fully opened eight-row grid. During those drops the multiplier is sticky, meaning progress carries between the awarded drops within the bonus. This does not make it a permanently saved multiplier for all future paid rounds. The feature’s scope is as important as the number shown beside it.

Cygnus 3: the left pillar opens a wheel

ELK’s Cygnus 3 guide keeps rolling symbols and an expanding six-column grid but places the Cygnus Wheel at the centre of its progression. A Cygnus symbol reaching the left pillar can award coins, Free Drops or a fixed jackpot. The original instead moves directly from the relevant bonus trigger into seven Free Drops.

The multiplier arithmetic changes too. The supplier describes Cygnus 3’s multipliers being added together and applied to wins. That differs from each original activated scatter doubling the current factor up to 64x. A displayed 2x and 3x that add make 5x, whereas multiplying those two factors would make 6x. This is an arithmetic explanation of the difference, not an assertion that a pictured round contains those exact symbols.

Its wheel can award up to ten Free Drops with sticky multipliers, and its named fixed jackpots are a separate award category. A fixed monetary jackpot, a number of drops and a multiplier do not share units. Do not copy a later edition’s jackpot or overall potential into the original table merely because the pyramids and circular symbols look familiar.

Cygnus 2 supplies a different intermediate comparison. Its multiplier activates at the leftmost column and then turns wild, while extra bonus symbols can award three more Free Drops. The original uses bottom-row multiplier activation. Follow that precise destination before deciding that a sequel is simply the original with a larger maximum. The original screenshot below remains evidence of the original display, rather than an illustration of the later wheel.

Games like Cygnus

Cygnus combines Egyptian imagery with a gravity-driven grid. Winning symbols clear, and the remaining symbols slide left or right. A bonus symbol reaching the left pillar starts seven Free Drops with all eight rows active. The multipliers stay in place during the bonus. Watch where symbols move: reaching an activation position matters more than simply counting symbols on the screen.

The recommendations below share Cygnus’s Egyptian setting, but that is only one part of the comparison. A conventional reel game will not reproduce the shifting marble symbols or expanding grid. Start with the sequel if you want to compare that movement, then use the themed games to explore a different presentation. Wilds and sticky multipliers are also separate mechanics: do not assume a recommendation with sticky wilds carries its multiplier between bonus rounds.

Further Egyptian-themed alternatives include Lady Of Egypt, Ras Legend, Doom Of Egypt and Legend Of The Nile. Their grids and bonus rules differ from Cygnus.

Lady Of Egypt slot game
Lady Of Egypt

Lady of Egypt uses a moving active window rather than Cygnus’s growing marble grid. The operator’s original game rules describe nine fixed paylines within a 3×3 Speed Spins area. A line win or Expanded Pay moves that area two reels to the right and may increase its multiplier, up to 5x. Winning at that stage advances to a tenth reel with a separate prize opportunity.

This makes the movement itself a useful comparison: Cygnus moves individual symbols towards activation positions, while Lady of Egypt advances the active reel area after a qualifying win. Three or more scattered bonus symbols start its free-spin feature. During that bonus, two to four eligible reels become entirely wild on each spin; those reels are selected from positions two, four, six and eight.

Its 10th-reel multiplier prizes use the bet per line, so their displayed numbers should not be read as multiples of the entire stake. The Egyptian setting is shared, but the win lines, moving window and payout units require a different reading of the screen.

Ras Legend slot game
Ras Legend

Ra’s Legend is Red Tiger’s alternative for players comparing what remains on the reels. Its Sacred Wilds lock in place, whereas Cygnus retains a bonus multiplier. A held wild contributes to symbol combinations; a retained multiplier changes the value of eligible wins. Those are different forms of persistence, despite their similar appearance in feature lists.

The supplier’s Ra’s Legend overview also distinguishes Gift of Ra instant wins from the House of Ra multiplier feature. Read those as separate events rather than one universal free-spin rule. The overview lists 96.09% for its presented configuration, which should not be substituted for another operator’s settings.

Ra’s Legend therefore offers a useful contrast if the attraction is locked symbols and several bonus events. Cygnus makes the route taken by a rolling symbol central to its activation. Shared Egyptian imagery does not establish the same trigger, reset rule or expected return, and neither a locked wild nor a multiplier guarantees a paying combination.

Doom Of Egypt slot game
Doom Of Egypt

Doom of Egypt changes the focus from moving symbols to a selected expanding symbol. In Play’n GO’s original feature description, the Scarab acts as both wild and scatter. Three Scarabs trigger ten free spins, and one of the nine ordinary symbols is selected for the special expansion role.

Enough of that symbol must land to meet its normal winning requirement. Ordinary wins are paid first; the selected symbols then expand and can pay even when their reels are not adjacent. Further sets of three Scarabs can retrigger the feature, subject to the game’s win cap.

This is a different screen-reading task from Cygnus. In Doom of Egypt, identify the selected symbol and count the reels carrying it. In Cygnus, follow movement to the activation position and the current multiplier. Expansion fills positions on a reel, while Cygnus adds rows to its playing area. The shared word “expanding” does not mean the games evaluate wins in the same way.

Legend Of The Nile slot game
Legend Of The Nile

Legend of the Nile is Betsoft’s 6×6 cluster game with exploding wins and three separate God Trails. The original release description explains that winning clusters involving Isis, Ra or Anubis advance the corresponding trail. This is a collection system alongside the falling symbols, rather than a conventional single payline.

The trails have different lifetimes. Isis and Anubis progress persist between sessions in the described edition; Ra’s trail resets with each spin. Completing Isis awards free spins with progressively larger payouts. Anubis awards free spins in which its symbol appears more often and has a higher value. Ra’s trail has a separate set of awards, including a progressive jackpot in that edition.

The comparison with Cygnus is strongest around cascades and retained progress. Cygnus’s bonus carries its multiplier between Free Drops; Legend of the Nile asks you to follow which god contributed to a cluster and which trail advanced. Account, edition and jackpot availability matter when interpreting saved progress, so a historical trail description is not evidence that every current casino offers the same configuration.

Similar games to Cygnus

The original display combines pyramids and astronomical decoration with circular marble symbols. The round playing pieces matter because gravity can move them after a win, unlike flat pictures on a conventional reel. The two pillars and active rows supply more useful orientation than a general history of ancient Egypt. The setting is a stylised game scene, not evidence about the real distance to a star or the historical alignment of a monument.

ELK’s Cygnus series uses rolling symbols and different ways to activate a feature. The original’s bottom-row multiplier and left-pillar bonus give it a clear identity. Cygnus 2 changes the multiplier destination and adds a wild conversion; Cygnus 3 introduces a wheel and additive multipliers. Those concrete differences are more useful here than an unrelated list of casino table-game products or titles made by other studios.

Cygnus slot sites FAQs

Which slots play like Cygnus?

Cygnus 2 is the closest series comparison for rolling symbols. Lady of Egypt uses a moving active reel window; Ra’s Legend has locked wilds; Doom of Egypt selects an expanding symbol; Legend of the Nile combines clusters with God Trails. The four Egyptian alternatives share a setting, but their bonus rules differ.

What RTP does Cygnus have?

The historical original catalogue reference is 96.10%. Check the offered game help for the active configuration. RTP is a theoretical long-run return; neither an expanding row nor a doubling scatter forecasts the next result.

Which studio made Cygnus?

Cygnus comes from Elk Studios. Browse the top Elk Studios slots here.

What special features does Cygnus have?

Cygnus has cascades, an expanding grid and Free Drops. Multipliers become sticky in the bonus and can reach 64x. That multiplier is not the game’s maximum-win figure.

What is the volatility of Cygnus?

Volatility describes how results vary; it does not establish a regular hit rate or predictable session length. Use the rating and rules supplied with the particular Cygnus version. The expanding grid and retained bonus multiplier explain its mechanics, but cannot by themselves prove a volatility category.

What is the biggest win on Cygnus?

The feature multiplier can reach 64x, but that is not the maximum payout for a complete round. Check the maximum-win rule in the offered game’s help screen, including whether the limit is expressed as money or a multiple of the total stake. A multiplier limit alone does not establish the win cap.

How is Cygnus laid out?

Cygnus starts with six columns and four rows. It can expand to eight rows and 262,144 ways to win; these are ways, not fixed paylines.

What is the minimum and maximum bet on Cygnus?

Use the total-stake control and permitted limits in the offered Cygnus build. The historical catalogue range does not establish every current casino’s stakes.

Can I play Cygnus for free?

This article has a practice launch option for Cygnus. Provider and location restrictions may prevent it loading. Confirm the original title and help when it opens; practice credits have no cash value and a different series edition has different activation rules.

Cygnus Pros and Cons

The original’s strengths are moving-symbol activation and a growing playing area. The trade-off is needing to follow several stages and destinations. The later wheel and wild-conversion editions offer distinct alternatives, rather than an automatic improvement in every result.

Pros

  • The original and two later editions have clearly different activation destinations
  • Multiplier activation gives each special symbol a destination to follow
  • The expanding grid reaches up to 262,144 ways
  • Bonus multipliers persist between Free Drops

Cons

  • The Free Drops trigger depends on a symbol reaching the left pillar
  • The original bonus proceeds into Free Drops rather than Cygnus 3’s jackpot wheel
  • The pyramids and space theme won’t be for everyone
