Break Away Deluxe: Line Choices, Growing Wilds and Alternatives

Break Away Deluxe offers eighteen, thirty-eight, sixty-eight or eighty-eight paylines on a five-by-five hockey board. Rolling Reels creates further drops within a round; twelve free spins add growing wild stacks and a multiplier trail. The original Break Away uses a different ways system.

Game Information
What changes when you choose the line option?
This is not simply an 88-line game with a decorative selector. Stormcraft lists four line settings and says the 88-line option has the highest RTP. Compare the total stake and the information for the selected option together, rather than treating the headline return as a universal setting.
Rolling Reels provides the other useful comparison point: winning symbols give way to another drop within the round. The free-spins features then add multiplier trails and Growing Wilds. A sports-themed slot without those mechanics is a visual match, but will not reproduce that combination of cascades and bonus development.
The line choices and feature list are set out on Stormcraft’s Break Away Deluxe page. That is also why this review distinguishes the Deluxe release from the earlier Break Away game.
Line costs: 18 lines and 88 lines at the same coin value
Total stake depends on the enabled lines, coins per line and coin value. Suppose each line costs 1p. Eighteen lines then cost 18p for the spin, while eighty-eight cost 88p. Keeping the coin setting unchanged has increased the money at stake by 70p. It has not kept the price of the round unchanged while adding seventy free lines.
Across one hundred paid spins, those example settings would amount to £18 and £88 staked, before allowing for any returns. This is stake arithmetic, not a forecast of the amount lost. It also explains why choosing a setting purely because its RTP is higher can be misleading: a percentage and a cash stake measure different things. Compare both values on the same basis.
The published game help at Senator lists 96.18%, 96.38%, 96.68% and 96.88% for its eighteen-, thirty-eight-, sixty-eight- and eighty-eight-line settings respectively. Those are figures for that documented configuration. The casino’s loaded help screen remains the place to check the version actually offered.
How Rolling Reels and the wild features work
A cascade is part of the same round
A regular winning combination is paid, its symbols clear, and replacements fall into the spaces. Another qualifying combination produces another payment and another drop. The sequence stops when the new arrangement does not win. Betway’s feature explanation confirms that Rolling Reels operates in both ordinary play and free spins.
For example, three consecutive drops after one paid spin are not three additional stakes. Equally, three drops do not necessarily mean three free spins have been used. The free-spin counter tracks the awarded spins; the cascade sequence belongs to the current one. Keeping those counts separate makes the bonus easier to follow.
Smashing Wild: one middle reel during ordinary play
The random Smashing Wild feature turns one of reels two, three or four wild. The Ice36 game guide describes a guaranteed win from that feature and a transformed reel that remains wild through the following rolls. That persistence belongs to the feature sequence. It does not mean the reel stays wild for later paid spins.
Nor does a guaranteed feature win mean a profitable session. A return can be smaller than money already spent reaching it. Smashing Wild is useful to distinguish from the ordinary stacked symbols: its defining change is a whole selected middle reel becoming wild, rather than simply landing a few substitutes.
Twelve free spins: Growing Wilds and the multiplier trail
Three or more scatter pucks trigger twelve free spins. During the bonus, the wild stacks on reels two to five grow by one symbol per spin. The multiplier trail progresses through 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x and 8x on successive rolls, with 8x applying from the fifth roll onwards. These are two different developments: the stack size changes across spins, while the multiplier depends on the current run of consecutive wins.
The game help says the multiplier returns to 1x when a drop produces no winning combination, and that free spins cannot retrigger. Reaching 8x therefore does not lock that multiplier for all remaining spins. As a simple payout example, a qualifying £2 win at 3x becomes £6. If the cascade then stops, the next spin does not inherit 3x merely because free spins remain.
One paid round, several drops and two different progressions
Begin with the selected line setting and total wager. A paying combination clears and replacements fall into the available spaces. If those replacements qualify, the round pays again. The complete Rolling Reels sequence is still attached to the starting spin, so the number of drops is not another number of paid stakes.
During free games, Growing Wilds and the multiplier trail develop on different schedules. The wild stacks grow through the bonus spins, while the multiplier follows consecutive paying drops and resets when that sequence stops. A larger stack can therefore appear in a later bonus spin while its first prize still starts from the reset multiplier.
For an illustrative sequence, imagine a bonus spin has a £2 qualifying prize at a displayed 3x, followed by a £1 prize at 4x. Those examples pay £6 and £4, totalling £10 for those evaluations. If the next drop has no win, the chain ends. A later spin does not automatically receive 4x merely because the previous chain reached it. The actual displayed trail determines each award.
A stack growing by one symbol is also not the same as making the entire five-position column wild immediately. Watch how much of the stack is visible and which positions contribute to a line. Smashing Wild is the separate ordinary-play transformation, described above. These different causes explain more than placing all three under a broad “wilds” label.
Reading the Deluxe line selector in the image
The genuine screenshot has a five-column, five-row board with four buttons down the left: 88, 68, 38 and 18. The highlighted 88 setting identifies the pictured selection. That is a line choice rather than a free-spin count or the size of a multiplier.
The hockey players, helmets and pucks supply the sporting theme, while the selector and taller board identify the Deluxe format. The earlier Break Away’s 243 ways are a different combination system. A photo of a hockey player does not establish whether a paying result follows selected lines or matching symbols across ways.
When changing the line setting, inspect the displayed total cost as well as the configuration information. Maintaining the same line unit while enabling more lines increases the total stake. The fact that one setting has the highest listed RTP does not make an unchanged balance support more paid spins at a higher wager. The line-cost examples above separate those quantities.
Games like Break Away Deluxe
In Break Away Deluxe, a win can lead to further drops within the same round. During free spins, the wild stacks also grow across the bonus. That makes the point at which a feature resets more useful than a general description of fast-paced hockey. A longer sequence on screen is not necessarily another paid spin, and reaching a higher multiplier does not mean that value will apply to the rest of the session.
The original Break Away is the closest starting point for a comparison because it shares the hockey setting and Rolling Reels. Centre Court offers a different sport, while Champions and Champions Of Valhalla are separate games rather than editions of Break Away. Their names and themes should not be used to infer identical bonus rules. For a feature comparison, look at how wins are formed, whether a new drop costs another stake, and when the multiplier returns to its starting value.
Break Away Deluxe has 4 closely related mobile slot games based on in-game features and bonus round features, they are Centre Court, Champions, Champions Of Valhalla and Break Away.

Centre Court is the tennis-setting comparison. Its archived five-reel, three-row and nine-line board is much shorter than Deluxe’s five-by-five display. A tennis ball or player portrait is a thematic connection; nine drawn paths provide the structural difference. Its free-game feature should be read under the original Centre Court rules rather than given Deluxe’s twelve-spin opening, growing wild stacks or 8x trail. The smaller line set also changes line-bet conversion: at an illustrative 1p per line, nine lines cost 9p, whereas eighty-eight cost 88p. That is stake arithmetic, not a claim about expected loss or hit frequency. Bombs is another broad archive route, while the original Break Away below offers the directly evidenced hockey/cascade relationship.

Champions changes to an archived three-by-three display and a twenty-line combination format. Its sports presentation gives the visual link with hockey, but it does not identify Deluxe’s selectable 18/38/68/88 settings. The archived wild/substitution and scatter free-game categories describe separate symbol jobs: substitution helps a qualifying combination, while a scatter trigger opens another sequence. Follow those rules in the offered Champions release rather than applying Deluxe’s growing-stack schedule. A compact board also does not establish a longer-lasting balance or steadier results. Crazy 80S is a further theme route. Use Champions as a change of sporting display, and the detailed original Break Away comparison when Rolling Reels is the feature you want to retain.

Eyecon’s Champions of Valhalla is the Norse-warrior comparison, using five reels, three rows and twenty-five lines. Its rune on reel three starts Block of Wilds, changing a 1×3, 2×3 or 3×3 area into wild positions. Scatters on reels two, three and four award nine free games, with eligible further scatters adding spins. That is a specific contrast with Deluxe’s stacks growing across twelve free spins: the rune changes a block of the current board rather than adding one symbol to a stack each spin. Its snowy battlefield connects the imagery, while the trigger determines the mechanical difference. Cops N Robbers is another separate action setting, not evidence of a shared multiplier trail.

The original Break Away uses 243 ways, with all ways permanently enabled. Deluxe instead offers four selectable line settings on its taller grid. Danske Spil’s rules for the original award up to twenty-five free spins according to the triggering scatter count, and give its bonus multiplier sequence as 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x and 10x. Deluxe awards twelve free spins and its trail reaches 8x. Both reset the multiplier when the cascade stops producing a win. The original operator help lists 96.29% RTP for the version offered there. These differences make the original a useful alternative for someone who likes the sequence of clearing symbols and dropping replacements. They also explain why a guide to the original cannot stand in for Deluxe’s paytable. A larger grid, a higher multiplier ceiling and more awarded spins are separate properties, rather than interchangeable measures of a better game.

The hockey setting is visible in the players, helmets, gloves and puck imagery. The screenshot below also shows the layout clearly: five columns with five positions each, and a vertical choice of line settings on the left. Those details are more useful for identifying this edition than the word “Deluxe” alone. The compact controls in the image are too small to establish a current cash stake, so use the loaded game’s own bet display for that. The wider action category below includes several different settings and should be treated as a theme collection.

Stormcraft Studios is the developer of Break Away Deluxe. Its game page describes the selectable lines, Rolling Reels, Smashing Wild and twelve free spins with Growing Wilds. The two titles shown in this studio group provide routes into the developer’s wider catalogue. Sharing a studio does not establish that Dragon Shard or Jungle Jim And The Lost Sphinx uses the same bonus progression as this game. Compare the feature rules of the individual title before carrying across a multiplier limit or a wild behaviour from Deluxe.
For a closer comparison, start with the original Break Away entry above and the feature explanation on this page. The sports category is useful when the setting matters most; the studio category is useful when looking through Stormcraft’s other releases. Neither filter tells you that a game has the same line costs or the same bonus. Deluxe’s defining combination is its selectable five-by-five layout, a random wild-reel feature in the base game, and a separate free-spins mode with growing stacks and a multiplier trail.

Break Away Deluxe Pros and Cons
The important strengths are the selectable line format, same-round cascades and different bonus progressions. The limitations concern the total cost of extra lines and the reset of the multiplier chain.
Pros
- Growing wild stacks and a cascade multiplier follow separate progressions
- The free-spins multiplier can reach 8x within a winning cascade, then resets when that sequence ends
- The 88-line option has the highest published RTP at 96.88%
- Rolling Reels and Growing Wilds provide different stages within the bonus
Cons
- High volatility can produce uneven returns; a longer feature does not guarantee a profit
- No progressive jackpot on offer
- The sport and action theme won’t be for everyone
