NextGen Slots: Classic Games and Catalogue Guide

NextGen Gaming is best treated as a legacy slot studio name, not as a current standalone casino or operator. Its older games passed into the corporate group now known as Light & Wonder, and several legacy titles remain visible in that company’s current iGaming portfolio. The exact games available to UK players depend on the casino, the game version and current licensing arrangements.
This page separates what can be confirmed from official sources from older catalogue records held by SlotsLike. It does not use a made-up studio-wide RTP average, and a title appearing here does not mean it is currently offered by every UK casino.
Corporate status, catalogue examples and source links checked 16 July 2026.
NextGen Gaming at a glance
| Current status | A legacy studio and game-catalogue identity. Light & Wonder does not present NextGen as one of the main studio brands on its current portfolio page. |
|---|---|
| Current corporate context | Scientific Games acquired NYX Gaming Group in January 2018, and Scientific Games adopted the Light & Wonder name in March 2022. A NextGen Gaming legal entity is also listed in Light & Wonder’s current subsidiary filing. |
| Games we could verify | Selected legacy directory records appear in Light & Wonder’s current online portfolio. They are presented as thumbnail cards below. |
| UK availability | Operator- and title-specific. Check the exact game at a UK-licensed casino rather than assuming the whole historical catalogue is available. |
| RTP | There is no reliable single “NextGen average RTP”. Check the information or help screen for the exact game and configuration you are playing. |
What happened to NextGen Gaming?
The name has moved through several corporate changes, which is why older NextGen games can now appear under Light & Wonder branding.
- NextGen content formed part of NYX Gaming Group’s business. Historical corporate material refers to NextGen-developed content within the NYX group.
- Scientific Games completed its acquisition of NYX on 5 January 2018. The acquisition brought NYX’s digital gaming platform and content operations into Scientific Games.
- Scientific Games became Light & Wonder in 2022. The company announced the new name on 1 March 2022 as part of its move towards a cross-platform games business.
- The legacy catalogue remains relevant. Light & Wonder’s current iGaming portfolio still contains games associated with the older NextGen catalogue, although it does not currently offer a separate public NextGen studio filter.

This distinction matters: NextGen was a game developer, not a UK casino. A developer’s corporate history is not evidence that every game is legal or currently available at every operator.
Finding an older NextGen game
Start with Foxin’ Wins, Starmania or Medusa Megaways if you recognise those names. Each link opens a separate game review and its alternatives. For the Jackpot Jester games, compare Jackpot Jester with Jackpot Jester Wild Nudge; the extra wording identifies a different edition, so check the full title when looking for it at a casino.

Every game below is shown with its existing SlotsLike thumbnail and links to its individual page. The first three also have matching records in Light & Wonder’s current portfolio. The remaining cards are clearly treated as historical directory records, not promises of current UK availability.

How to compare NextGen slots
Check the exact RTP, not a developer average
RTP means return to player. It is stated as a long-run theoretical percentage, not a prediction of what one person will win or lose in a session. A game can also be supplied in more than one approved configuration. Check the rules or help screen inside the exact version offered by the casino.
Separate volatility from RTP
Volatility describes how prizes tend to be distributed. A higher-volatility game may produce less frequent but potentially larger prizes, while a lower-volatility game may produce more frequent smaller prizes. Two games can have a similar RTP and still feel very different.
Confirm the version and feature set
Do not assume that a sequel, Megaways edition or branded adaptation works like the original. Compare the reel setup, paylines or ways to win, bonus triggers, maximum stake and any jackpot rules shown in the game itself.
Use free play as a mechanics check
Where a free demo is available, it can help you understand the controls and bonus rules. Demo results do not improve the odds of later real-money play and should not be treated as evidence of likely returns.
Are NextGen games available at UK casinos?
Some legacy games may be available through UK-licensed operators, but there is no reliable basis for saying that the entire historical catalogue can be played “anywhere legally”. Availability can change because of commercial distribution, software integration, intellectual-property rights, game certification or an operator’s own product decisions.
Before playing for money, check that the casino business is listed on the UK Gambling Commission public register. Then check the game’s own help screen for its rules, RTP and version information. The UKGC licenses gambling businesses; it does not turn a developer profile into an operator licence.
NextGen Gaming questions
Does NextGen Gaming still exist?
The name survives in legacy game records and in a Light & Wonder subsidiary listing, but it is not presented as a main standalone studio on Light & Wonder’s current iGaming portfolio. For players, “NextGen” is most useful as a historical catalogue label.
Who owns NextGen Gaming?
The relevant corporate chain now leads to Light & Wonder: Scientific Games acquired NYX Gaming Group in 2018 and renamed itself Light & Wonder in 2022. Current corporate filings list a NextGen Gaming entity among the group’s subsidiaries.
What is the average RTP of NextGen slots?
We could not verify a dependable studio-wide average, and publishing one would be misleading. RTP belongs to a specific game and configuration. Use the information screen for the exact title you are considering.
Are all old NextGen games still available?
No. Older catalogue titles can be withdrawn, restricted by region, renamed, replaced by sequels or simply not carried by a particular casino. A historical listing should not be read as a statement of current availability.
Sources and verification notes
We prioritised first-party corporate and regulatory sources for ownership, brand status and UK licensing checks:
- SEC-filed NYX acquisition agreement listing NextGen Gaming as a NYX subsidiary
- Scientific Games: completion of the NYX Gaming Group acquisition, 5 January 2018
- Light & Wonder: Scientific Games announces its new name, 1 March 2022
- Light & Wonder: current online games portfolio
- Light & Wonder: subsidiary list filed with its 2026 annual report
- UK Gambling Commission public register
What remains unverified: a complete public NextGen-only catalogue, a single average RTP for the developer, and current UK availability for every historical title. Those limitations are stated here instead of being filled with estimates.
