NextGen Slots: Foxin’ Wins, Medusa and Classic Games

NextGen is a legacy studio name found on games now associated with the wider Light & Wonder catalogue. Foxin’ Wins and Medusa Megaways illustrate two very different designs: a fixed-line game with optional Superbet levels, and a changing-height game with reactions and an extra reel.

The illustrated archive helps identify older NextGen releases. A historical entry does not establish current casino availability, and each game’s RTP belongs to its exact configuration.

What happened to NextGen Gaming?

The name has moved through several corporate changes, which is why older NextGen games can now appear under Light & Wonder branding.

NextGen content formed part of NYX Gaming Group’s business. Historical corporate material refers to NextGen-developed content within the NYX group.
Scientific Games completed its acquisition of NYX on 5 January 2018. The acquisition brought NYX’s digital gaming platform and content operations into Scientific Games.
Scientific Games became Light & Wonder in 2022. The company announced the new name on 1 March 2022 as part of its move towards a cross-platform games business.
The legacy catalogue remains relevant. Light & Wonder’s current iGaming portfolio still contains games associated with the older NextGen catalogue, although it does not currently offer a separate public NextGen studio filter.

This distinction matters: NextGen was a game developer, not a UK casino. A developer’s corporate history is not evidence that every game is legal or currently available at every operator.

Finding an older NextGen game

Start with Foxin’ Wins, Starmania or Medusa Megaways if you recognise those names. Each link opens a separate game review and its alternatives. For the Jackpot Jester games, compare Jackpot Jester with Jackpot Jester Wild Nudge; the extra wording identifies a different edition, so check the full title when looking for it at a casino.

Foxin’ Wins versus Medusa: what changes during a round?

Foxin’ Wins keeps a recognisable 25-line map while an optional paid setting changes where its Fox Pup feature can act. Medusa Megaways changes the number of visible positions and replaces winning symbols through Reactions. If your question is “what did the extra charge buy?”, Foxin’ Wins is the relevant example. If it is “why did the reels keep changing after a win?”, Medusa is the better illustration. Neither description says which game will return more in a particular session.

The Foxin’ Wins coin settings also give a practical cost comparison. At a hypothetical coin value of 2p, 25, 35 and 50 coins cost 50p, 70p and £1 respectively. Fifty ordinary spins would therefore stake £25 at the first setting or £50 at the last, before any returned prizes. These are arithmetic examples, not recommended stakes or predictions of losses. Comparing the same coin value without including Superbet would hide half the cost of the highest setting.

A Medusa reaction, by contrast, is part of the same round: a winning group clears and new symbols fill the spaces. It is not another paid spin at the displayed stake. The extra horizontal reel also affects only the positions specified by that game’s rules. Do not transfer its Gaze feature to another Megaways game because both can show up to 117,649 ways.

The remaining illustrated classics below are archive routes. Starmania, Jackpot Jester and Jackpot Jester Wild Nudge must retain their full names when you look for a current build. A familiar title does not prove that a jackpot network, optional bet, payout configuration or branded licence is still offered. Foxin’ Wins

Foxin’ Wins uses 25 paylines in Danske Spil’s rules. With Superbet off, the stake is 25 coins and the Fox Pup wild feature belongs to reel three. Level one costs 35 coins and extends its scope to reels two, three and four; level two costs 50 coins and covers all five. The higher setting therefore changes the price as well as the eligible reels. Three or more POT scatters award ten free spins with doubled prizes and possible retriggers. Scatter prizes use the total bet excluding the additional Superbet charge. The Fox symbol is not the POT scatter. Keep those roles separate when checking a trigger or converting the paytable to money.

Medusa Megaways

Medusa Megaways combines six changing-height reels with an extra horizontal reel. Its Reactions remove winning symbols and replace them before the round finishes. A wild on the extra reel can activate Medusa’s Gaze, changing symbols underneath it while excluding scatters. Three scatters award ten free spins in the Sisal rules, with five more for each additional triggering scatter. During that bonus, the reaction multiplier begins at 2x and develops as winning reactions continue. Symbols on the extra reel can also change the state of the main grid, so simply counting six vertical reels misses part of the feature. This is a different design from both Foxin’ Wins’ fixed paylines and its paid Superbet settings.
