Current limits
| Age | Maximum total stake | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| 18–24 | £2 per online slot game cycle | Reel-based casino games played online |
| 25 and over | £5 per online slot game cycle | Reel-based casino games played online |
What “per game cycle” means
The official guidance defines a cycle from initiating the game until all money staked in that cycle is lost or all money won is delivered or made available. Several staking opportunities inside one cycle must still stay within the age-based total. A 27-year-old who starts with £2 could be offered up to £3 more in that cycle; a 19-year-old staking £2 cannot be offered another stake before it ends.
What the rule does not cover
- The statutory online-slot limit does not apply to other online casino games such as roulette or blackjack.
- It is not a personal budget recommendation. A legal maximum can still be unaffordable.
- It does not set a maximum session loss, deposit or total number of game cycles.
- Gaming machines in premises use separate categories and limits.
Related design rule
The Commission’s guidance also notes a minimum 2.5 seconds from one online slot game cycle starting until the next can begin. The stake cap and speed requirement are separate protections.
What to do if a limit looks wrong
Check your verified date of birth and whether the product is an online slot. Save the game name, time and screenshot, stop play, and contact the operator. If the response suggests a regulatory breach, use the Gambling Commission’s reporting route. Do not test the limit by risking further money.
