How Thai Princess works

The original game has five reels and three visible rows. Its payline screen shows twenty numbered routes, including straight lines and patterns that move between rows. Matching symbols must follow a paying route; having several identical symbols somewhere on the screen is not enough. The princess is wild, substituting for ordinary symbols but not the flower symbols that control the bonus.

The screenshot below shows the base game with lotus flowers, boats, fans and card symbols against the blue lagoon. A stack means repeated symbols occupy several positions on a reel. An expanding wild changes a reel after it appears, while a sticky wild stays for later spins. Those are different behaviours. Thai Princess’s unlocked arenas use expanding wilds. That does not imply that a wild stays fixed in one square for later spins.

The Lotus Flower bonus

Three or more lotus scatters trigger the bonus, with the starting free-spin award determined by the number in view. William Hill’s game description identifies an award of up to fifty spins. The original bonus help screen then shows four arenas: the starting grid at the bottom left and three more that unlock as flowers are collected.

What changes at 12, 18 and 24 flowers?

At twelve collected flowers, the second arena unlocks with expanding princess wilds and five additional free spins. At eighteen, another arena unlocks with expanding wilds and the 10, J and Q symbols removed from its reels. This also adds five spins. At twenty-four, the final arena removes all five card ranks, 10, J, Q, K and A, and adds another five spins.

The removed symbols belong to the newly unlocked arena. It is not the same as clearing every low symbol from every grid at once. Likewise, twelve flowers is a progress threshold during the feature, not the number needed to start it. Following the flower counter and the active arenas explains more than the phrase “free spins and expanding wilds”: each stage changes which symbols can appear on that set of reels.

Reading line prizes and total-stake multiples

The original paytable says its prizes are multiplied by the current line bet. Five princess symbols pay 20,000 times that line bet. For example, a £2 total stake spread across twenty lines is 10p per line. A qualifying five-princess line would therefore pay £2,000, which is 1,000 times the £2 total stake.

That calculation describes one paying line. It does not establish a cap on the sum of several winning lines, several bonus arenas or an entire free-spin round. For smaller symbols, the same distinction applies: the displayed five-symbol statue prize of 500 becomes £50 at a 10p line stake, or 25 times a £2 total bet. Read the unit attached to a prize before comparing it with another slot’s advertised maximum.

These four alternatives cover different parts of Thai Princess: Thai Flower shares the lotus-and-temple setting, Temptation Queen uses conditional expanding wilds, Gypsy changes the winning system to ways, and Heidi’s Bier Haus combines several types of wilds. Their bonus rules provide a stronger comparison than small differences between listed RTP figures.

Thai Flower is the original Barcrest game, with five reels, three rows and ten fixed paylines. The Thai setting makes it the closest visual neighbour here, but its bonus is organised differently. King Casino’s description specifies lotus flowers on reels one, three and five to trigger twelve bonus spins. During that round, the flower and three randomly selected symbols remain on the reels.

Thai Princess instead collects flowers to unlock additional arenas with their own symbol sets. Thai Flower’s reduced-symbol feature therefore gives a useful comparison without being the same progression system. The original ten-line title should also be distinguished from Thai Flower Megaways, which is a separate version. Start with the original when comparing the familiar artwork and compact grid. Do not assume its smaller line count makes a session safer: it changes how winning combinations are checked, not whether the next spin will win.

Temptation Queen offers a more direct comparison for expanding wilds. Its published game rules place wilds on reels two, three and four. A wild expands to cover its reel when doing so creates a pay, after which the lines are evaluated. The expansion is conditional, rather than a promise that every wild always fills the reel.

Three or more feature symbols on consecutive reels starting at the left trigger eight free spins. During the feature, each expanded wild also counts as one feature symbol, and a qualifying retrigger adds another eight spins. That connection between expansion and retriggering is the reason to compare it with Thai Princess. Thai Princess uses a collected-flower threshold to unlock arenas; Temptation Queen works through expanding reels and further eight-spin awards. Its Egyptian setting, with the queen and pyramid imagery, also gives a clear visual change from the lagoon.

Gypsy changes the comparison from fixed paylines to 243 ways. High 5 Games’ original announcement identifies Split Symbols as its special feature, alongside its crystal-ball setting. Multiple symbol instances and a ways-based result are a different idea from a princess wild expanding over a reel.

In a conventional five-reel, three-position ways structure, 3 × 3 × 3 × 3 × 3 gives 243 possible full-width routes. This is a count of combinations, not 243 drawn lines or a promise of more frequent wins. Thai Princess’s twenty numbered lines make the contrast easy to see. Gypsy is worth comparing when the way symbols are counted interests you more than the Thai setting. Keep the exact title in mind: Gypsy, Gypsy Moon and Gypsy Rose are separate games, and a feature described for one should not be assumed to belong to the others.

Heidi’s Bier Haus replaces the lagoon with a beer-hall setting and a six-reel game. The game rules describe a random Tapper feature that can turn one to six reels wild. In the bonus, purple Heidi symbols involved in the trigger become persisting wilds, while a red Heidi in the trigger adds a wheel spin before the free spins begin.

This separates two ideas that are often grouped together: a whole reel becoming wild and a symbol remaining in one position for later spins. Thai Princess’s expanding princess wilds are tied to its unlocked arenas. Heidi’s persisting wilds instead come from the colour of a triggering symbol, and the wheel adds another stage to follow. Compare it for that layered bonus structure, rather than expecting a lower-risk version of Thai Princess. The original Heidi’s Bier Haus is also distinct from later Bier Haus editions with additional characters or different wheel features.
